Egg White Obsession

If you pay even an inkling of attention to my Twitter, you probably know about my obsession with egg whites, or rather, my favorite healthy food of all time. So, I figured it would be appropriate to elaborate on my undying love for them in my first real blog post.

For those of you not familiar with these basically calorie-free works of magic, I’ll explain. Egg whites can either be bought in a carton, or you can go old school and separate the yolk from the egg whites yourself. It depends how lazy you are. Naturally, I lean toward the using the carton.

Of course, you must be dying to know the calories in egg whites, unless you already know because you obsessively add them to your calorie tracker app each day. For the uninformed, each egg white has roughly 16 calories, which is a far cry from the more than 70 calories in a whole egg. And, I promise they taste just as good. Actually, they taste better. I can’t even look at regular scrambled eggs anymore. They’re not even a little appetizing. Maybe you can get to this point one day too.

Making scrambled eggs is obviously super easy even if you don’t have the slightest idea of how to cook. I’m one of the worst cooks on the planet, but somehow I manage to make decent scrambled egg whites. I’m currently working on my cooking skills, so I’m prepared for the time when I have the sole occupation of “trophy wife.” (It will happen.)

Anyway, it’s best to add other fun things to egg whites. My personal favorites are mushrooms, green peppers, and loads of cracked pepper. You can literally have five egg whites mixed with an abundance of vegetables for less than 100 calories. They’re full of protein, they’re very low in carbs, and they actually fill you. It’s a beautiful thing.

On a side note, I regret to inform you all that I am taking a break from egg whites for a few days. The dishwasher broke at my house, so my roommates and I have resorted to washing dishes in the sink. I do not trust this method of ridding dishes of germs. I don’t believe it works, and it’s way more time-consuming than I ever imagined. In result, I recently made scrambled egg whites in a pan that was washed in the sink, only the pan was definitely not rinsed all the way. I was excited to eat my egg whites, until I realized they tasted like soap. Soap doesn’t taste good. I realized this was a serious #dietingproblem, so I immediately threw the egg whites out and resorted to eating an apple. Needless to say, I need a break from egg whites as well as any other food that you are required to make in a pan.

I hope that catastrophe never happens to any of you, because I would feel bad. So, if you haven’t already, go invest in a few cartons of egg whites. You won’t be disappointed.
